The first issue of the the International Maritime Journal “Sea Review” was published by the Nautical Institute of Ukraine 20 years ago !

The principal objective of the Journal “Sea Review” is the familiarization of the NI Ukrainian members and Ukrainian Maritime Community with the processes and the developments in the World Maritime Industry, priority research and elaboration’s, the latest achievements and the problems arising, as well as cooperation and mutual information exchange, the facilitation of the further competence improvement of Ukrainian maritime specialists , news from International Maritime organizations , NI and NIU.

«Sea Review», a quarterly analytic information Journal issued, on 40 pages is supposed to be a «unifying» publication aimed at a closer collaboration of the organization members.

Mr . Philip Wake,OBE ,RD*,MSc FNI , Past Chief Executive of The Nautical Institute so spoke about the Journal : “the publishing of any regular magazine is a major undertaking which requires visionary leadership at the outset and dedicated effort thereafter. That the Sea Review published by The Nautical Institute of the Ukraine is now celebrating its Anniversary is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of the Institute’s members contributing articles and to the outstanding editorship of Professor Vladimir Torskiy FNI, the founding and still serving Honorary Secretary of the Institute based in Odessa.
“Sea Review” is a substantial quarterly professional journal packed full of an interesting mix of articles. Appropriately, the central theme of the journal is promoting the safety of shipping operations through the application of best practice. As such, it is providing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in the same way that The Nautical Institute’s “Seaways” does on a monthly basis and incorporating some of the same Mariners’ Alerting and Reporting Scheme (MARS) reports of near misses and accidents. Written largely in the Russian language, “Sea Review” is accessible to many of the Eastern European seafarers who may find “Seaways” more difficult to read. In addition to the professional articles and MARS reports, “Sea Review” offers information on the Institute’s membership activities in the Ukraine and internationally as well as prominent events in the United Kingdom, many involving the Royal Family, and elsewhere. Some articles are printed in English which is hopefully a way of increasing the readers’ knowledge of the language as it is the international and common language of seafarers. It is printed in a clear style on quality paper and distributed far and wide in the Russian speaking world as a valuable service to all maritime professionals. Long may it continue to be so.”
