The NI Webinars
Welcome to ‘Webinars’ — a section designed to provide you with access to useful and thought-provoking content. Simply select one of the webinars categorized on the previous webinars section shown on right. The Nautical Institute provides a series of Webinars on Technical issues that it feels will be of interest to its members, these webinars were started many years ago as ‘virtual Branch meetings’ but have become more popular during the challenging times of Covid. The live webinars are open to all but the recordings are only available to NI Members. Most webinars run for about an hour and comprise a presentation followed by Q&A. The scope of interests are wide to reflect our members’ interests and in 2020 included topics such as Hatch Cover Inspections, Block chain, Mindfulness in Shipping and Modern Weather Forecasting just as an example. Members are encouraged to use the webinars as part of their Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and certificates are provided to those who attend the live events. Members are also encouraged to offer feedback on future topics that might be of interest. |

The Nautical Institute introduces free membership to students and cadets The Nautical Institute (NI), the global professional body for mariners, is delighted to introduce free membership to students and cadets undergoing initial maritime training or education. The NI, which has just celebrated its 50th Anniversary, has branches around the world with members from all ranks, and provides training and technical resources as well as professional leadership through its representation of members at the IMO. The Institute has long been an advocate of young mariners joining the NI – it offers not only Continuing Professional Development (CPD) through training and education but also networking opportunities and the chance to learn from more experienced mariners. Below are just some of the benefits that student members of The Nautical Institute enjoy: • networking opportunities from belonging to a truly international professional body with 55 branches worldwide • access to world-leading technical webinars and presentations • Seaways digital, the Institute’s monthly membership magazine • the chance to learn from experienced maritime professionals working in a variety of fields Captain John Lloyd, CEO of The Nautical Institute, said: “Younger members are the future of the maritime sector, and it’s important that all involved in our industry do everything possible to make maritime an attractive and supportive career. We have a global network of more than 55 branches and are keen to welcome as many students and cadets as possible so they can benefit from the knowledge of experienced mariners while also sharing their own experiences and views through our technical groups. We are also looking forward to introducing them to our Younger Members’ Council.”
The NI is delighted to introduce free membership for those in initial maritime training or education. Student membership is free for the full length of study, followed by a further ‘grace period’ of up to 12 months while they establish their maritime career. During this time students will have the option to upgrade to full membership of The Nautical Institute at half-price.
Those wishing to apply for student membership (AMNIS) of The Nautical Institute may do so writing to Honorary Secretary NIU Professor Vladimir Torskiy, FNI.
