On the middle of February 2019, the Second National Forum of Crewing Companies of Ukraine took place. The Forum was organized under close cooperation with the Nautical Institute of Ukraine and Chamber of Shipping of Ukraine. The general point of agenda was training and education of Ukrainian seafarers, their certification and prospects of employment.
Speakers were concentrated on the main problems, quality of the education and training, prospects of their improvement. As the result – discussion was quite tough and opened. A lot of criticism was addressed to new built Maritime Administration of Ukraine and Inspection on Licensing of Seafarers. Actually, the creation of Maritime Administration became real because of strong efforts of Crewing Association of Ukraine, however Association can’t accept 5 times increasing the prices for some certificates, without significant improving of the quality of training.
Over 100 participants took part in the Forum, over 10 of them – as a speakers (First Deputy Rector of Odessa Maritime Academy Shemyakin, Managing Director of Chamber of Shipping Captain Tikhonov, MNI , Head of the Chair of Odessa Maritime Academy Captain Pipchenko, Honorary Secretary of Crewing Association Captain Alex Sagaydak FNI and many others).
Almost all speakers stressed on necessity to ratify MLC Convention soonest possible.
Wide discussion took place in the Forum, as the result resolution of the Forum was approved, which calls for improvement of the policy of Maritime Administration, closer contacts of Authorities with maritime professionals and industrial ventures, cooperation on all aspects of training and certification of the Ukrainian seafarers.
